2018 U of M Stormwater Survey

In 2018, Pittsfield Township partnered with students from the Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning at the University of Michigan to gauge community opinions towards stormwater management. As part of that initiative, we implemented a short online survey asking about your knowledge of stormwater management and preference for future stormwater management practices as we look to improve water detention/retention/runoff in our community. A feature of the survey included a 7-minute video explaining the importance stormwater management has on our community and region as a whole.

With a total of 137 responses, you (township residents) identified two priorities: 1) a need for green infrastructure along the biggest drains in the township; and 2) implementation of a township-wide tree canopy program. The Sustainability Committee, and others, will now work to identify initiatives and programs to implement these priorities. We want to thank those of you that took the time to take the survey and provide input so we may improve our stormwater management practices and move the needle on achieving our sustainability objectives.
