Special Events Policy

Special Events

It is the intent of the Pittsfield Charter Township Board of Trustee to allow special events, both public and private, provided the events are lawful, consistent with Township land use policies, do not endanger public health, safety and welfare, and can be managed with existing or available Township resources.

Qualified events will coordinate with various Township departments. Additionally, your event may require licenses, permits or permission from other outside agencies such as Washtenaw County Road Commission for a road closure, Washtenaw County Health Department if food is being served or State of Michigan Liquor Control Commission if alcohol is being served. Please allow enough time to obtain any necessary permits, licenses or permission from these agencies when scheduling your event.

A Special Event means an event or occasion occurring on a non-permanent basis, such as a celebration, festival or temporary display which is different than the normal lawful use of the location where the event is to be held.

This policy shall not be applicable to:

  • Special Events on private property that do not require additional Township resources (police, fire, building inspections, etc.) and are otherwise permitted by statue or ordinate;
  • Special Events on Township property that do not require additional Township resources (police, fire, building inspections, etc.) and are otherwise permitted by the Building Use Policy or Parks and Recreation Department policies;
  • Special Events by Groups which have written agreements with the Board of Trustees which address use of specific Township facilities or lands.

Applications for Special Events Permits can be downloaded from the website. Please return the completed application with necessary fees at the Pittsfield Township Administration Building, located at 6201 W. Michigan Avenue.
