Roads & Construction
Posted on: May 30, 2018[ARCHIVED] MDOT: Upcoming I-94 Road Improvements in Washtenaw County from July to November
Starting this summer, the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will make
improvements to 9 miles of I-94 between M-14 and Carpenter Road, just east of US-23,
and the I-94/US-12 interchange in Ann Arbor. Improvements include concrete pavement repairs, resurfacing and culvert maintenance.
How Will Traffic Be Affected?
During construction, there will be lane closures off-peak at night and on weekends.
For concrete pavement patching, there will be a full freeway closure – one direction at a
time – for a total of two weekends. There will also be a full closure of the I-94/US-23
interchange for three weekends. One weekend closure will be allowed for work on SB
US-23 to I-94 Collector-Distributor (CD) road and all ramps connected to the CD road,
one weekend closure will be allowed for work on NB US-23 to I-94 CD road and all
ramps connected to the CD road, and one weekend closure will be allowed for work on
the EB I-94 to US-23 CD road and all ramps connected to the CD road.
Which weekends the closures will take place, and in which direction, will be announced
in advance. A detour will be posted for the closures.
There will be no lane closures during holiday weekends or during special events like the
Ann Arbor Art Fair or home football games at the University of Michigan.
When Will The Work Be Done?
Construction on I-94 is scheduled to last through November 2018.
