[ARCHIVED] Free Drinking Water Well Screening Offered by Washtenaw County Conservation District on November 16

The Washtenaw County Conservation District will screen drinking water well samples for nitrate and nitrite on Friday, November 16 from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM at the Augusta Township Hall, located at 8021 Talladay Road, Augusta Township, MI, 48191.

There is no fee to participants for this service. The screening is open to everyone who uses a private well for drinking water. Information about the screening, instructions for collecting samples, and sample forms are available at the District office, will be available on site and will be available on the District web site at: http://washtenawcd.org.

This service is for private drinking water wells only. Public water supplies are tested regularly so samples from public or non-drinking water sources cannot be accepted. You do not have to use a special bottle for this screening. Any small clean jar will work. All results are confidential, and participants will be mailed a copy of their results in 8 to 10 weeks, with information about what to do if the concentration of nitrate or nitrite is too high. This program is sponsored by the Washtenaw County Conservation District, the Michigan Agriculture Environmental Assurance Program, Eastern Michigan University, Augusta Charter Township and the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development.

For more information about the well water screening event, contact: Nick Machinski, Washtenaw County MAEAP Technician, at 734.761.8789 ext. 1218.
