Michigan Avenue Infrastructure Project in Pittsfield Receives Over $20 Million

Pittsfield Township is very excited to announce receipt of over $20 million for capacity, multi-modal, and surface improvements on Michigan Avenue, from Platt to Carpenter Road. Improving traffic flow and operations along this section of Michigan Avenue has been discussed by the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) and others since the 1990s.

Supervisor Mandy Grewal, who has been advocating for this project and infrastructure improvements since 2010, noted that she is "extremely thankful for the many local, regional, and state partners whose cooperation has finally made the much-needed improvements on Michigan Avenue in Pittsfield Township a reality!"

MDOT finalized and announced funding for this project earlier this week. Project details and information will be available on the Pittsfield Township website in September and the first public engagement meeting will be scheduled for either November or December 2020.

Scheduled for construction in 2022, MDOT will construct a 5-lane cross section along Michigan Avenue from Platt Road to Carpenter Road in addition to a 8' multi-use paved shoulder. The bridge at the US-23 interchange will be replaced and constructed with right-turn lanes, a 10' multimodal pathway, and new interchange ramps.

Project design and other details will be made available on the Pittsfield Township website in September at:
