According to the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (MDNR), Tick populations are on the rise in Michigan. Avoiding typical tick habitats like shady, moist, brushy areas and areas with tall grasses is best. Wearing long sleeve shirts and long pants with legs tucked into socks or boots when walking, working, or recreating in typical tick habitats will help to prevent ticks from attaching to the skin. It’s best to check your skin and clothes for ticks every day after being outdoors, even in your own yard. Insect repellent, especially those that contain DEET, Picaridin and Oil of Lemon Eucalyptus are most effective. Please see additional info for more about Ticks and preventing tick-borne illness.
