Michigan Avenue Corridor Infrastructure Improvement Project 2020-2023

Pittsfield Township is very excited to announce receipt of $30 million for capacity, multi-modal, and surface improvements on Michigan Avenue, from Platt to Carpenter Road. Improving traffic flow and operations along this section of Michigan Avenue has been discussed by the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) and others since the 1980s.

Supervisor Mandy Grewal, who has been advocating for this project and infrastructure improvements since 2010, noted that she is "extremely thankful for the many local, regional, and state partners whose cooperation has finally made the much-needed improvements on Michigan Avenue in Pittsfield Township a reality!"

MDOT finalized and announced funding for this project in July 2020. The first public forum for the project was hosted by MDOT on November 12th, 2020. Scheduled for construction in 2023, MDOT will construct a 5-lane cross section along Michigan Avenue from Platt Road to Carpenter Road in addition to a 8' multi-use paved shoulder. The bridge at the US-23 interchange will be replaced and constructed with right-turn lanes, a 10' multimodal pathway, and new interchange ramps.
